Financing and scaling life science and biosolutions in Europe

The US wins through geographic concentration in Boston and Bay Area, China through central control of capital and talent. I argue that Europe's only viable path is by tightly connecting existing innovation hubs across the continent to concentrate science, talent and capital around the best startups. My talk looks at how this is working in Denmark via our nationwide activities and collaborations with universities, and how we plan to expand across Europe through our growing international hub network.

My description: Markus Herrgård is CTO at the BioInnovation Institute (BII) in Copenhagen, a non-profit that has helped launch over 160 life science and deep tech startups. His career bridges life sciences and engineering with focus on cutting-edge innovation in digital twins and genome writing to venture building. Since joining BII in 2020, he's shaped its science and technology strategy, driving how research gets turned into startups for the benefit of people and society.
